Despite a very wet afternoon there were four enthusiastic gardeners from The P4-7E class this afternoon. We weeeded docks and buttercups and planted some of the runner beans underneath the bamboo canes.
Over the last few weeks there has been a very enthusiastic bunch of P1 and P2 children clearing weeds from the raised beds and turning over the soil to get them ready for our vegetables to be planted out. Here are a few of them on a wet day this week...a good effort everyone!
Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me to capture Maggie J's efforts to dig out several huge docks from around the apple tree. It took her two lunch breaks and she was determined to get them out and she did!
Kate has been clearing bamboo from her garden and she brought in some nice long bits so that we can use them for our beans to climb up!
Runner beans, courgettes, carrots and sweetcorn looking very good in Classroom 5! Ready for planting out? not sure about this cold weather we're having so far in May though....
Our pack of Tiger worms arrived in the post really quickly! so after our Eco Committee meeting three members and Liz and Kate worked through the instructions to put together their new home! We had ordered the Wormery from the Morrisons Let's Grow catalogue, it was the main item that we bought with our vouchers this year. It is a bit of an experiment and we hope the worms will start recycling kitchen waste from the school kitchen and turn it into compost for us to use in the raised beds. We need to leave them to settle in for a while until we start feeding them with peelings etc from the kitchen. They seem pretty happy for now!
