Planting out our Wooland Trust hedge pack in the wildlife corner outside Mrs Patterson's classroom today.
We did tallies of the different types of litter collected by Waste Week teams for the Village Clean-up. We collected lots of cans, plastic bottles and food wrappers. Most of this is from alongside the roads. How can we stop people throwing litter from their vehicles? We looked at how long it can take for different types of litter to decompose and made a display on the Eco board.
Eco Committee organised activities for the whole school to take part in during Waste Week at the beginning of March. The idea was to think of ways that we can all help to reduce waste. We were even filmed by BBC Alba for the news!
Wrapper-free-snack : During Waste Week we did a challenge to see which class had the least wrappers at snack. You could bring in fruit or snacks in tubs. JJ
Swap Stall: During Waste Week we did a Swap Stall. What you do is take something in and give it to the people that are working at the stall. They will give you a big or small token and you can take away something from the swap stall. It was a lot of fun and I want to do it again. Maighsi
During Waste Week we had a game called Recycling Relay and in the hall all of the classes had a brilliant time taking bits of rubbish from the middle of the hall into their corners and whoever had the most rubbish at the end wins. Freddie
Re-use Shed: During Waste Week the Eco Committee went to the re-use shed to get their photo taken with the new van. We agreed with the re-use shed to have a competition to design a new logo for the van. Josephine
The week ended with the whole school being split into groups on Friday and clearing litter throughout Acharacle. Shiel Buses took groups around the area from Ardtoe beach to Kentra and the village centre. We did a tally of the litter collected and there were lots of plastic bottles, cans and food wrappers. Eco Committee have been finding out that many types of litter take hundreds and hundreds of years to rot away. Glass and some plastics will never decompose. Please don’t drop litter; pick it up if you see it and help keep Acharacle beautiful! Eco Committee
